Do you know the Citroën Bijou?
A small car with a plastic body based on the 2CV - where was there such a thing? Only in Great Britain! We quote from the magazine "auto, motor und sport" No. 23 from October 29, 1959:
"Too much ugliness apparently sells badly in England too. In any case, the British Citroën branch decided to strip the Citroën 2CV of its corrugated iron dress and gave it a good plastic suit. The whole thing, in elegant beige with a white interior, was one of the main attractions in London under the name "Bijou". The little car looks quite pretty, apart perhaps from the wheel cut-outs for the large wheels and their respectable suspension travel. For the time being, the Citroën Bijou will only be available in England. A trial balloon?"
Picture legend from back then: "The most important surprise at the London Motor Show was only partly English: the "Bijou" from the British Citroën branch, a pretty fiberglass body on the chassis of the 2CV. The Bijou will only be available in England for the time being, but can probably be seen as the beginning of a departure from the previous spartan appearance of the small Citroën."
