Car brochure sold for more than a whole Ferrari
12/10/2019
Sometimes it's not easy to understand what makes collectors tick. Apparently, a Ferrari brochure for the 250 Europa model was sold for EUR 127,600 at an auction by Ni-Cola Classics (Ladenburg) last weekend.
Four pages of paper, approximately 13 x 20 cm in size, printed in color in 1954, changed hands as lot 799 for the equivalent of a well-preserved Ferrari Testarossa, two full-grown Ferrari 308 GTBs or six new electric VW Up!
What makes this sales brochure so desirable? Of course, not many brochures of the Ferrari 250 Europa have survived anyway, but the auctioned example was probably one of only three surviving brochures from an edition that Enzo Ferrari had stamped at the time because he is said not to have liked it. What he disliked about it is apparently not known.
So this four-piece was worth a lot of money to a collector from the USA. Now, many of us are collectors and of course we like to complete a car that we have in the garage with the original brochure that goes with it. But no one has ever gone as far as this collector. Interestingly, one of these brochures was auctioned back in 2007 for EUR 17,000. Even many Ferrari owners can only dream of such increases in value.
