Reclining seats, a popular equipment detail of days gone by
They are hardly advertised today, but in the sixties they were all the rage: reclining seats. They almost turned the car into a hotel room, or at least you could rest lengthways on the seats, which were folded back and laid flat. And some families probably spent a more or less comfortable night in the car on this sunbathing area before continuing their vacation journey the next morning. Young couples also used the ad hoc sunbathing area for a little romp when there was no other place to stay.
Cars with reclining seats were already available in the 1950s, but they were perfected in the 1960s, for example in the Renault 16.
