Rover and what went wrong
08/10/2016
"Rover vehicles were (for decades) well-designed and beautifully equipped cars for the (upper) middle class, a gentleman's club on wheels", says the movie about Rover's long farewell ("Rover - the Long Goodbye). Rover was perhaps the most "English" brand of all.
Models such as the 14/45 HP, but even more so the P4, P5 and P6 series ( 2000, 3500) shaped the image of the progressive manufacturer, which was responsible for many innovations. And even the Rover SD1 was an amazingly good car for the circumstances.
The film is worth watching, even if it lasts almost 40 minutes, which is unusual for a YouTube video. It shows the story of a successful company with great brand charisma that went under due to circumstances, management mistakes and union influences, until in 2005 not even the brand could be saved.
At least the Range Rover and Land Rover survived (more or less), both of which are also Rover products .
But instead of long words, we simply recommend the (English-language) movie:
We hope that we have not promised too much.
