Change of face - 50+ years of the Porsche 911
08/28/2016
Few cars have been built for as many decades as the Porsche 911. It has been over 50 years since the 901, later renamed the 911, replaced the original Porsche 356.
For almost a whole decade, the original 911 face remained as originally developed by the designer.
Then American safety standards forced changes to the bumpers, which appeared on the G model with the so-called bellows.
The front then remained largely untouched for around 15 years, before the 964 did away with the bellows and introduced solid bumpers in body color.
This look did not last long, however, but was completely refreshed in the mid-nineties.
The 993 was the first time that the basic shape of the 911 was substantially adapted to contemporary tastes. The following 996 went even further and up to today's 991 you can see the development that took a step back from the conventional bulb in the headlight design.
The various 911 generations were on display yesterday at Porsche Classic Live #1, organized by the Porsche Garage in Schlieren near Zurich. But of course there was a lot more, e.g. early 928 models.
We havestored some impressions and pictures in our picture archive .
