Old cars often cannot reach their destination on their own wheels
08/08/2016
A classic car event or vacation destination is not always just around the corner. And larger distances are not always easy to manage for an old car. As a result, some classic car owners choose to transport their cars on their own or rented trailers, or entrust the transport to a specialized company or the train.
We wanted to know more about this and asked our readers in a" question of the week" what they think about loading and transportation.
41% answered that they would never load their car and would rather give up an event than not drive there on their own.
However, the rest, i.e. well over half, do put their classic or vintage car on a trailer or entrust it to a transporter such as a train or truck.
However, 15% only do this for very long distances of over 1000 km, 24% for as little as 500 km and 18% even for shorter distances in order to preserve the old car. Owners of pure racing cars without road approval naturally have no alternative.
In practice, loading also has advantages, because if the old car breaks down during a rally, for example, it can still be transported home by hand, the mechanics are of course protected and often transportation with a towing vehicle is the only way to take enough luggage or the whole family with you if the classic/young car does not offer enough space.
Here is a graphic representation of the results:
We have already asked the next question of the week , this time asking whether classic car owners install additional, even modern, monitoring technology to "monitor" their car and its often delicate mechanics.
The results of the previous questions of the weekcan all be found in a dedicated topic channel .
