An accessory that almost everyone knows
In the 1970s to 1990s, a car radio with a cassette player was standard in most cars. This meant you were independent of station reception quality and radio programs and could play your own "mix tapes" as musical entertainment.
But where to put all the cassettes in the car? There was a solution and it was marketed as the Fischer C-Box, among other things. You could buy these plastic drawers in DIY stores, but you could also order them with the car as an accessory, albeit at a much higher price.
For the BMW 850i, for example, a pair of cassette drawers cost around DM 100. They were cheaper in the aftermarket, but you had to fit the plastic parts yourself, which was not always aesthetically pleasing.
Incidentally, there was a predecessor to this practical device that allowed you to store 45-rpm singles in your car, as we recently discovered on a BMW 507.
