For the 1967 model year, the Opel Rekord became bigger, more beautiful - and more expensive. Although the equipment and chassis had been refined accordingly, the popular mid-range car was still one price class higher than before. This test report from November 1966 discusses whether it had what it took to be a sales success, even at a base price of 7590 marks.

For a long time, the pressing tools for body parts in Rüsselsheim had been changed more often than at other automobile production plants. After each change, a Rekord rolled off the production line with a different exterior but almost the same interior. Last year, this practice was reversed: the outer appearance of the Rekord was only slightly retouched, but under the hood was a new engine. However, the public did not applaud this change in model policy as expected. With a new Rüsselsheim management team came a new tactic and a new model: the most short-lived Rekord model to date was replaced by a car that had been modified both internally and externally. The technical standard of the Rekord can now compete with other European cars in the upper mid-range segment.
