One of the important criteria tested by car magazines, but of course also by the manufacturers of new cars, was the climbing ability. How much could the road climb and the car still drive? In what gear?
Today, it's hard to imagine, as modern vehicles offer enough power to overcome even the steepest inclines. And the automatic transmission or DSG even takes care of the downshifting, whereas drivers in the past had to decide on the right gear in good time so as not to be too slow to change gear halfway up the incline.
Opelhad , of course, built in extra inclines on its test track where all this could be tested safely.
