Summary
While the term "roadmaster" is more commonly used here to describe the plugging of potholes on the highway, the name "Roadmaster" was used in the USA for 13 years to describe the top model in the Buick range. The 1949 model in particular is especially well-known and popular today, for which - as is so often the case - a movie is not entirely innocent. This article tells the story of the Buick Roadmaster and its siblings Special and Super and shows them in many current and historical pictures.
This article contains the following chapters
- Masterful road holding
- Seven years almost unchanged
- Two-thirds progress
- Eight cylinders in a row
- Probably the most famous Buick
- 34 years break

Preview (beginning of the article)

When Raymond (Dustin Hoffman) imagines himself back in his childhood behind the wheel of the 1949 Buick Roadmaster, Charlie (Tom Cruise) doesn't yet know that it's his brother he's throwing out of the cream-colored convertible. Only when Raymond says more to himself that the "miserable red" seats used to be brown does it dawn on Charlie. The result is a drive together across the USA, in which the open Buick in buttery Sequoia Cream becomes the third main actor alongside the two men.
