Schumi-Ferrari sold for around EUR 15 million
In addition to the most expensive car of all, the Mercedes 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé (135 million euros), the undisputed number one among F1 racers also comes from Stuttgart, the Mercedes W196 of Juan Manuel Fangio. The car changed hands for 22.3 million euros at Bonhams in Goodwood a few years ago .
The Ferrari F2003 GA from 2003 driven by the then world champion Michael Schumacher has now moved up to second place, as the second F1 car in the double-digit million euro range, achieving a hammer price of CHF 13 million at Sotheby's Luxury Week in Geneva. Including the surcharge, the new owner paid a whopping CHF 14.63 million (EUR 14.9 million) for the special monoposto.
According to RM, Michael competed in a total of nine races with chassis 229, winning four of them and becoming world champion for the sixth time with the car.
Another highlight of the car is that Schumi used it to complete the Italian Grand Prix in Monza in just 1 hour 14 minutes and 19 seconds over the 300 km distance at an average speed of 247.586 km/h, making it the fastest F1 race of all time, which will also be featured in the comprehensive report on 100 years of Monza in the upcoming zwischengas anniversary magazine 2023 .
Other Schumi Ferraris can be found in the current list of the most expensive F1 cars: in third place is Schumi's F2001, the world champion car from 2001 (7.5 million US dollars), in fourth place is the fifth world champion car from 2002 (6.6 million US dollars) and just behind it is the F300 from the 1998 season (6.2 million US dollars).
