Celebrating a car manufacturer's birthday with a special model makes perfect sense. Ferrari celebrated its fortieth in 1986 with the F40 and its fiftieth in 1995 with the F50. The F60 was supposed to follow, but it came far too early in 2002. Consequently, it was given a different type designation, but this was too long and too redundant for people. And so the F60 first became the "Ferrari Enzo Ferrari" and finally the "Ferrari Enzo". But this is actually the least interesting part of the story. Luca di Montezemolo, Ferrari President since 1991, recognized the opportunity to earn money with limited edition cars early on. He had followed the F40 with the F50 and had already raised the bar. However, the F50 was preceded by the McLaren F1, which had set new standards.
