Ferrari back at Le Mans after 50 years in the factory
11/01/2022
In June 1973, a works Ferrari took part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the premier class for the last time. At that time, it was the Ferrari 312PB prototypes, driven by Ickx/Redman, Merzario/Pace and Schenken/Reutemann. The fast Ferraris were defeated by the victorious Matra-Simca MS670 B, driven by Pescarolo/Larrousse, after numerous defects, which also affected the competition.
In 2023, Ferrari will now try its hand again in the top racing class at Le Mans. The factory will be at the start with the brand-new 499 P hypercar.
The livery is somewhat reminiscent of the 312PB from 50 years ago, but a bit of tradition makes a lot of sense, after all, Le Mans will be celebrating 100 years of the famous race in 2023.
We can't yet say whether it will be as exciting in 2023 as it was in 1973, but those interested can already read about the 1973 race, which we of course meticulously documented a few years ago.
