Colors away from the norm
04/27/2022
Today, as we all know, cars are mostly painted gray, white or black. Real colors are the exception. It used to be different, but even 40 or more years ago there were paint finishes that obviously did not appeal to mass taste.
This is the only explanation for the fact that, according to RM, only four Porsche 911 Turbo built in 1976 left the factory in the color "apple green" (picture above).
And the "Rosso Cordoba" paint finish on the Dino 246 GT/GTS also remained something for the special connoisseur; no more than around 50 Dino vehicles are said to have been sold in this color.
Today, it is often the exotic colors that produce top prices at auctions. This also explains the estimated value of EUR 225,000 to 275,000 at the RM/Sotheby's auction in Monaco on May 14, 2022 for the 1976 Porsche 911 Turbo, while the EUR 350,000 to 400,000 estimated value for the 1975 Dino 246 GTS is more in line with the market level for this car.
If these prices are too high for you, you should perhaps take a look at the lime green Porsche 928 from 1977 with a dark green Pasha interior ...
