Club membership is part of owning a classic car (question of the week)
A sorrow shared is a sorrow halved; a joy shared is usually a joy doubled - classic and modern classic car clubs not only offer a lively exchange of experiences and quick, expert help with questions or technical problems, but above all offer the opportunity to get together with fans of the same field of interest and celebrate the joys of the (classic) automobile together. Nevertheless, not all owners of classic cars or youngtimers take membership of a club for granted as part of their classic car hobby.
In a " question of the week" , we therefore wanted to find out whether classic car or youngtimer owners are also members of a classic car, youngtimer or brand club (or IG). The result is quite clear: More than two thirds of the participants (together 70.7%) are active in at least one club more (39.7%) or less (31%).
The fact that the clubs appear to be fulfilling the wishes of their members well is shown by the number of people who have dropped out again: only 7.7% of those surveyed had already registered with a classic or classic car club once, but had left again. Of these, 2.4 percent have left because they no longer own the car in question.
The third strongest force with 16 percent are therefore the convinced nay-sayers who cannot imagine becoming a club member for unspecified reasons. Only 2.4 percent of non-members intend to change this situation in the near future.
Our survey results show that the club landscape in German-speaking countries is still doing very well and that membership is practically part and parcel of owning a classic car. However, it is difficult to make predictions for the future.
