If possible, spare parts from the original supplier (question of the week)
When a classic car needs a repair, some owners of rare classic cars begin a long search for the right spare part. If the supply is small, you have to make do with what you can get. For many popular classic cars, however, there are plenty of original parts available as well as numerous reproductions - sometimes from independent companies, sometimes directly from the manufacturer. Quality, price and delivery times vary depending on the type and source of the parts.
We wanted to know from Zwischengas readers which spare parts they install in their classic cars and asked a question of the week: Which spare parts do you prefer to install in your classic car?
Around 40 percent of the 325 respondents prefer high-quality new parts from the supplier who ideally supplied the parts back then. The price-performance ratio seems to be best here.
26.2 percent prefer to use new parts from stock, so-called "new old stock" (NOS) parts. Nothing beats original equipment quality.
Eight percent prefer to use used original parts - after all, the classic car should remain as original as possible.
7.4 percent rely exclusively on new parts from the vehicle manufacturer; a Porsche should remain a Porsche, a Mercedes a Mercedes.
Only 0.9 percent are satisfied with cheap new parts from the Internet.
However, at 17.5 percent, the proportion of those who did not agree with any of the answers was relatively high. It is quite possible that they rely on a mix or use different strategies for different vehicles.
