Nostalgic painting on the Route Neuve in Fribourg
04/08/2022
Where Jo Siffert's garage once stood, only a fantastic graphic by Wolfgang Hugentobler reminds us of the past. Over a period of around two months and a good 180 hours of work, the twelve by four meter "mural" was created every evening in his spare time using a small black and white photograph in DIN A4 format. Just as the artwork was finished, the Fribourg University Library published a picture by the well-known local photographer Leo Hilber, which would have shown the building in all its detail.
Everything has an end, but many things will never be completely forgotten. At least not for the generation that was able to experience this great time 50 years ago. It will be difficult for all the young successors to get a picture of what it was like back then. Because soon there will be tall apartment blocks here on Route Neuve 4. Presumably, the development will in no way be reminiscent of the extremely likeable and successful Swiss racing driver.
The painting - albeit now decorated with somewhat strange graffiti - will only be on display at the Fribourg branch of "Jo Siffert Automobiles" until Easter. After that, construction work will begin. From April 15 (after the exhibition in Givisiez), there will also be plenty of reminders of "Seppi" to admire at the Nicoli R. garage in Villars-sur-Glâne. The second branch of Siffert's garage was once located there.
Expected opening hours:
Every Friday from 14:00 to 18:00
Every Saturday from 09:00 to 12:00
