Bugatti double eight - Not a really clever sales strategy
In Essen at the "Techno Classica" there was a Bugatti 37 "Doblemotor" with two eight-cylinder engines coupled together. I had never seen this car before. When I asked at the stand, I got the following answer: "Buy this book and you will learn everything about the car and its builder Don José Tous de Forrellad." Unfortunately, the book - not cheap, of course - wouldn't have helped me much. It is written entirely in Spanish.
Apart from that, I think this sales strategy is wrong. If we could write more about this unusual Bugatti here, we might be able to sell one or two more books about it. But as it is, our knowledge is limited to the Spanish-speaking world (which is small in Europe at least).
What we were able to find out is unfortunately not much: Don José Tous de Forrellad must have been a Spanish inventor who developed a vehicle with a hydraulic drive. Years later, he converted a standard Bugatti of unknown type into a powerful two-door car, which is said to have become very popular in Barcelona and whose appearance in the capital was always a great public celebration. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, about the "Doblemotor".
But perhaps one of you, dear readers, has Spanish roots and can tell us more about it.
