Mercedes-Benz SL with four cylinders again after 59 years
Mercedes-AMG plans to launch the SL 43 on the market in 2022. After 59 years of six, eight and even twelve-cylinder engines, the sports convertible with the three-pointed star would then be available with a four-cylinder engine for the first time since the end of the 190 SL. Of course, engine technology has evolved somewhat since 1963. Instead of 105 hp from 1.9 liters, the new SL produces 381 hp from two liters with the help of a turbocharger. Thanks to 48-volt mild hybrid technology, an extra 14 hp can even be called up for a short time. With the fabric soft top, this generation also sees the return of an equipment feature that has been missing for 20 years. Despite all traditions, the SL is also available for the first time with something that has never been available before: All-wheel drive.
