Summary
The Porsche 924 didn't have it easy. Although it was modern and comparatively inexpensive to build, it was still not a "real" Porsche for many friends of the company, even though a lot was done to make it better and faster over the course of its career. We show the development steps that led to the Porsche 924 and an early model in many pictures, some of which have never been published before, supplemented by sales literature and other documents.

A joint sales company had been founded between Volkswagen and Porsche for its marketing and this company soon realized that the 914 had actually been designed too uncompromisingly to achieve large numbers, too little mass production technology had been adopted and the interior and trunk offered too little space. A development project with the number 425 was soon launched. Development began in 1970 and the result was presented to the public in November 1975, on the 100th birthday of Ferdinand Porsche, who had already died in 1951.
