Carolus Horn - The man who made flying more beautiful
04/09/2022
Everyone knows the advertising slogan that proclaimed driving the Opel GT to be the greatest pleasure under the clouds. If you like, the slogan about flying has become a household word. However, the man who came up with the catchy words is far less well known: the Wiesbaden advertising graphic designer and copywriter Carolus Horn, who had been working for the advertising agency McCann Erickson since the 1950s.
At that time, the American agency was not only responsible for the advertisements, but also for Opel's sales brochures. Together with his colleague Hans Jung, Horn therefore also designed the catalogs for the Opel Rekord and Kapitän P and P2, which is why the license plates of the cars always began with the (fictitious) character combination JU-HO.
While the GT slogan is generally used as praise today, Horn's probably second most famous advertising slogan for the Deutsche Bundesbahn is mainly used mockingly these days. Let's not talk about that.
