The poetry of the automobile
03/27/2022
I would say that there aren't a handful of cars with their own poem. Books about individual vehicles are now a dime a dozen, but who writes a poem about a drive.
But we also know that there is nothing that doesn't exist. So at the Techno Classica in Essen, I casually discovered Kurt Juhn's poem about his drive in a Mercedes-Benz S car from 1929:
S-s-s-s-swooshing, whirring chase!
The car flies uphill and downhill
Now the road becomes a ruler
The S flames like a torching flash through the valley.
Pointer points, trembling joy traitor:
One hundred and fifty kilometers
Pity-The straight
Is already over! One of a kind
Up the hill
On horseback without reins!
Do we have wings?
You magic cart-make fools of wise men!
Show how to win happiness in a flash,
before it escapes.
I love you, my heavenly wonder express,
You my whizzing, humming, buzzing S!
At the end of the day, it's up to you to decide whether you like it or not, but Juhn's enthusiasm is clear to see and that's actually a good thing.
P.S. Techno Classica 2022 is still open to visitors until today, Sunday, March 27, 2022 in Essen, our detailed review of the trade fair will follow soon ...
