When the heart beats faster (at the Rétromobile 2022)
I always like to say that for me, the car was completely invented in the mid-thirties.
Everything that was added later is actually almost completely unnecessary and just adds a lot of weight. The only positive thing about today's car is its build quality. You sit down in a brand new vehicle with a mileage of twelve units and the visually awful display, especially when you compare it with the beautiful old clocks in historic sports cars, announces the next inspection in 36,000 km. That's a real thing. You can hardly open a hood yourself anymore. In an emergency, many would even have to find out how to unlock it. Mechanical defects are practically impossible anyway.
But please just take a look at these wonderful vehicles from BMC, Amilcar and S.P.A.G in peace. They are the absolute pinnacle of emotions, make our hearts, especially mine, beat faster and provide the greatest possible driving pleasure, even today, or especially today.
Today's speed limits castrate the modern, 600 hp bullets to the point of no return, but in one of these old cars, in the midst of daily traffic, you can't shake off the great feeling of having just started the Targa Florio.
Like an "extreme sportsman" you feel the wind and weather, but also the great mechanics of the vehicle on your own body and in the evening you go to bed with great satisfaction and look forward to the next trip like a child at Christmas.
P.S. Our comprehensive review of the Rétromobile 2022 will follow shortly.
