Putting the cart before the horse - rear-wheel drive with 1 hp
03/01/2022
"Good cars are pushed and not pulled by the drive," is a well-known bon mot by Walter Röhrl, which is often quoted by friends of rear-wheel drive. Advocates of front-wheel drive then like to counter with the historically verifiable fact that horses are usually harnessed to carriages. This makes them consider front-wheel drive to be clearly superior, as it has ultimately proven itself over thousands of years.
However, rear-wheel drive trailers, who have simply had to accept this historical fact, can now be helped. Because around 1900, there was actually at least one attempt to have a vehicle pushed instead of pulled by horsepower. Unfortunately, we know nothing about the driving behavior - especially on snow and with sudden load changes on bends. In any case, the rear-mounted carriage did not catch on.
