What was the 300-SL prototype doing at Hermann Graber?

Sometimes you just have to take a closer look. While rummaging through our archives in search of pictures of Hermann Graber's work on the Alvis TC21, we found a picture from 1953 showing a Talbot with a Graber Cabriolet body. Behind the Talbot, however, there is another vehicle with unusual details.
It is, of course, a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, but the design corresponds neither to the racing cars nor to the later production car. In fact, the 300 SL prototype W 194 011is probably behind the Talbot.
But what was the secret prototype doing at coachbuilder Hermann Graber? Did it have anything to do with the construction of the prototype? Or was it intended to provide support for a later production model? Perhaps one of our readers knows more?
