When the design identifies the automobile
12/14/2020
For some, the illustration shown represents two wheels and some technology, for others these few lines already allow the identification of the automobile under which these rear wheel suspensions were installed. The fact that it is the rear wheels can be seen from the fact that they are not steerable (no tie rods, no corresponding joints). But you can see even more. The wheels are individually suspended and driven, with the differential in the middle. Drum brakes are fitted. Coil springs and hydraulic telescopic bumpers were used, an indication that the car was built after the war and somewhere between the sixties and seventies (or even later). If you look even closer, you will see the 600-14 tire dimension on the sidewall of the left wheel, an indication of the fifties or sixties, but rather later than earlier due to the independent wheel suspensions. The connoisseur (of this brand) can now read a lot more from the drawing, perhaps even identify the car, but for less specialized observers it will now be difficult.
That's why we always give five specific suggestions in our car connoisseur quizzes, from which you have to choose the correct name of the car. These five possible answers decide whether a quiz question can be solved correctly without a lot of luck. We put a lot of energy into making the car connoisseur quiz both tricky and solvable. It should be difficult, but not impossible, to answer all ten questions in a quiz sequence correctly.
In this case, the five selected answers could be, for example, Alfa Romeo Giulietta (1961), BMW 1600 (1962), Jaguar E-Type (1963), Ford Cortina (1964) and Renault 16 (1965).
The experienced quiz player is now able to rule out individual answers immediately. The Giulietta had a rigid axle, the E-Type naturally had disc brakes all round, the Ford Cortina also had a rigid rear axle and the Renault 16 was front-wheel drive. That leaves the BMW 1500 from 1962, so it's not that difficult, but of course you have to observe carefully and know a few things to make the right choice. But sometimes it helps a lot if you can rule out just one or two answers. And luck is also a factor.
This is how we construct (in the truest sense of the word) every car connoisseur quiz, after we have first selected the pictures.
And that's exactly how we designed our latest quiz, which is designed to test your car knowledge once again. Do you want to give it a try? The aim is to match the design features of former automobiles to the correct make-type-year combination.
