Axle load
12/11/2020
A Heinkel cabinweighed around 290 kg empty. The permissible total weight at that time was stated as 510 kg, which meant that the payload was just over 200 kg. When empty, 138 kg weighed on the front axle and 152 kg on the rear axle.
So much for the theory. In practice, i.e. in the photo shown, it is more likely that 250 or more kilograms were loaded. In any case, the permitted axle load of 0.255 tons may well have been exceeded here.
Incidentally, the axle load is calculated by adding the unladen weight and payload together and then dividing by the axles, assuming that the axles are loaded equally. This should be more or less the case with the Heinkel shown here ...
However, who would think of "axle load" when looking at the charming photo?
