And how does the new Opel Kadett drive?
Opel answered the question of how the Opel Kadett drove itself in the sales brochure for the newly presented Kadett in 1963:
"When you get out of the car after your first drive, the OPEL KADETT looks no different than usual. But you will see it with different eyes. Because you have gotten to know its character: young and full of verve! With its supple, firm suspension, it whizzes along the road. A good 120 kilometers per hour on the highway. Potholes, crosswinds, bends - you've tried everything. And you simply felt safe.
Technical terms such as "wide gap spring", "central joint axle", "construction principle" suddenly became imaginable. You enjoyed it. Once you really "stepped on it", and off it went. Nobody in its class could keep up so quickly. You would have driven up 42 percent gradients if only you could have found one (there are no roads with gradients like that in Europe). In short, we have told you the story of a test drive. You can experience it all for yourself. Wouldn't you like to?"
The 3.92 meter long and 1.47 meter wide Kadett had 993 cm3 and 47 SAE horsepower. "Young and full of drive ..." was Opel's headline. And "a modern car from the hood to the rear axle", or, "There are only preferred seats here". All-round visibility was praised just as much as the large trunk. Compared to the market leader, the VW Beetle, the Opel was indeed much better.
And so the Opel advertisers themselves gave the answer to the question mentioned at the beginning in the newspaper advertisements: "In short: O.K.".
