When Opel needed the Kadett City

The VW Golf also left its mark on Opel. In May 1975, the Rüsselsheim-based company presented the City, a shortened hatchback version of the Kadett C, albeit with the rear axle of the CarAVan and DM 100 more expensive than the standard two-door version.
Like the Golf, the City also had a folding backrest and a large hatch at the rear. And it was also available with luxury equipment.
"Kadett - The economical car with a wide choice," the Opel advertisers wrote at the time. And pointed to the attractive prices and the longevity of the products, even if rust was a major problem for the Opel Kadett City in particular. The rear-wheel drive City was very popular on the market, as its practical advantages made it a pleasant companion. It was only with the Kadett D that Opel engineers switched to front-wheel drive, as Volkswagen had already done with the first Golf.
Of course, the pictures shown here are also available in the Zwischengas archive.
