We tend to romanticize the past. But in fact there were already traffic jams on our roads 30 and 50 years ago and accidents were perhaps less numerous in absolute terms, but more frequent in relative terms.
We also used to have the effect of accidents occurring simultaneously on opposite lanes of the highway, as our picture from 1979 shows. The cars that were wrecked back then were probably blocked on their way to the classic car stage. For example, the NSU, which was already old at the time, and the relatively young Passat estate in the foreground were probably demolished.
Can anyone recognize all the vehicles in the picture?
