Classic pearls of the future - Chevrolet Corvette ZR1
08/03/2013
We have never ventured this far into the present in our oracles, but there is little doubt that the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will also follow its legendary ancestors like the L88 into classic car heaven.
The ZR1 was the most powerful road-going Corvette ever built by General Motors. It was also the most expensive Corvette of all time. Less than 5,000 examples of the fastest C6 variant were produced between 2009 and 2013 and the amount of manual work was considerable.
Around 7 days were spent working on a ZR1 in Bowling Green, two of which were spent on the paint job alone (in 10 colors). Many parts - a ZR1 consists of a total of 5,000 individual parts - differed from the "normal" Corvette, and the proportion of carbon fiber was considerable.
The almost 650 hp ZR1 was only available with a manual gearbox and the sports car also mastered the world's most difficult race track, the Nordschleife, with flying colors.
So if nothing goes wrong and we are still able to maintain the electronic components, of which there are of course many in a ZR1, in 20 or 30 years' time, then buying a well-preserved ZR1 would probably be a safe bet ...
