Classic pearls of the future - Lancia Hyena
01/20/2017
The Lancia Delta Integralebecame a classic with its rally victories, but the compact all-wheel-drive car is also a lot of fun on the road. Dutchman Paul V. J. Koot and Italian Marco Pedacini, the latter of whom worked at Zagato, thought it should be possible to increase this pleasure.
The result was the Lancia Hyena, a streamlined yet attractively shaped two-door coupé based on the Integrale.
Weighing 200 kg less than the donor Integrale, the result was produced by Zagato in just 24 units (instead of the 75 planned) and featured a hand-driven aluminum body and a modified interior.
Unfortunately, Lancia lost all interest in the project early on, so that Zagato had to buy complete Integrales in order to strip them of their bodywork afterwards and carry out the conversion.
With a 250 hp four-cylinder engine, sports car-like performance is said to have been achievable, with a sprint time of 5.4 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h.
The Lancia Hyena was presented at the Brussels Motor Show in 1992, the last one was probably assembled in 1995 or 1996.
The 14th Hyena built is now available, Bonham is auctioning it at the Grand Palais Paris auction on February 10, 2017. It is expected to fetch EUR 150,000 to 200,000 (CHF 160,000 to 210,000), which does not seem out of the question for such a rare car, especially as the car on offer looks really attractive in its zagato green paintwork and with only 8,000 km on the clock.
