The gold-plated Opel Kapitän for the anniversary
The OpelKapitän models built from 1955 to 1958 pointed to new trends in body fashion with their shyly hinted rear fins. However, one Kapitän built during this period was given a very special honor on November 9, 1956.
It was the two millionth Opel to leave the Rüsselsheim factory halls - adorned with gold jewelry. Everything that was normally chrome-plated - inside and out - was 24-carat gold-plated here. The paintwork and upholstery were also specially produced for this model.
In keeping with the taste of the time, the appearance of this one-off expresses the pride of the Opel employees in being the first German company to have produced two million vehicles.
Technically, the gold-plated Kapitän also corresponded to the series. It had a 75 hp 2473 cm3 in-line six-cylinder engine in the front and was capable of 140 km/h.
