A (technical) review of 15 years of zwischengas.com

Zwischengas will officially celebrate its 15th anniversary on November 23, 2025. What a milestone!
Before November 23, 2010, only a single page was live, with no menu and no subpages. You could only enter your email in a simple form to make sure you didn't miss the real go-live of zwischengas.com. After that, the first "beta" version went live.
Today, Zwischengas consists of a few distinctive building blocks. We went live with one of them 15 years ago: the car magazine " Automobil Revue" , which is known far beyond the borders of Switzerland , was completely digitized and can still be searched and read online today. Over the years, a number of "components" have supplemented the foundation of Zwischengas and, from today's perspective, are among the main pillars of the platform:
- August 22, 2011: Introduction Vehicle Market
- November 21, 2011: Classic Data ratings (partnership)
- February 25, 2012: ADAC Motorwelt adds to the magazine archive and a long-standing partnership begins
In the months that followed, we euphorically introduced new functions such as comments, news and personal bookmarks (watch list). The fact that the team was still very small at the time automatically meant that each team member had to take on several roles. And that was certainly the reason why we were inevitably heading for our first disaster. Shortly after August 1, 2013, our IT monitoring system recorded many errors on a hard disk in our redundant infrastructure. Alarmed, but still calm due to redundancy, replacement servers were ordered. However, these were not due to arrive soon enough and, as luck would have it, the remaining computer components also died - zwischengas.com was offline!
Luckily for us, the new server arrived that very day and we were back online after just three hours. This probably went down as the most stressful day in the history of Zwischengas, at least for the IT department and the management (yes, yes, that was exactly two people in total)...
After five successful years, we increasingly heard from our readers that, despite all the advantages of the internet, they missed printed reports with tangible images, so we decided to launch Zwischengas in print form. The first annual magazine was published at the end of 2015 and met with great interest! Even famous car racing drivers had to grab a copy. This 260-page annual magazine is still an integral part of our editorial activities today.
Two years later, we achieved an important milestone: we were able to convince those responsible at " auto motor & sport" that it would be important for the entire classic car scene if the AMS were also part of the zwischengas.com digital magazine archive. And so several volumes were digitized and put online. As a Christmas present in 2017, we announced the great news that you could now read the AMS online.
The rhythm of our Tuesday morning newsletter ticks like a Swiss clockwork. Since our go-live in 2010, we have never missed a Tuesday and have regularly reported on what has been happening in the classic car scene over the past seven days - until today! In 2019, however, there was competition: our first vehicle marketplace newsletter went out on February 7. This week, the 355th is already going out.
Then came Corona in 2020; our office was empty. Of course, we still wrote, but the reporting was a challenge. In June, there was at least a relaxation in Switzerland: at least 1.5 meters distance, maximum 1000 people in the same place. After all! And so those with individual offices moved back into their workplaces.
A new era for our readers was ushered in with the tenth anniversary of Zwischengas at the end of 2020: the entire site was completely redesigned and, with an adapted front end, was now also easy to use on mobile devices. A massive adjustment for many - but everyone would be even more shocked if we were to activate the old version again today...
Our Christmas present in 2022 was the number 100,000 - that's how many subscribers we had back then!
The zwischengas.com platform is constantly being tweaked and polished. It's like a classic car being prepared in the garage for a Concours d'Elegance. Silently and without comment, all articles on Zwischengas were translated into English in the summer of 2025. Anyone who has read this far is now welcome to take a look at the English version . We have high hopes for this expansion into other countries. However, our DNA will not change drastically as a result of this expansion.
There is still a lot to do! And we don't seem to be running out of ideas either. So we are very excited about the coming years, although we also feel a little queasy when we think about the whole AI trend... But tomorrow we'll start by scanning a few more slides for our online photo archive with over 400,000 images.
