100 Years of Mercedes-Benz
“The Mercedes-Benz brand was established 100 years ago: On June 28 and 29, 1926, what was then Daimler-Benz AG was founded. A milestone was the registration of the trademark on August 21, 1926: The Mercedes star of the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) is surrounded by the laurel wreath of Benz & Cie., with the word marks ‘Mercedes' and ‘Benz' embedded within it. Mercedes-Benz vehicles still bear this emblem today. It is one of the most internationally recognized and valuable logos.”
That's what it says on the Mercedes-Benz press page, and these days you really have to be glad when a manufacturer still cares about its history and tradition. Mercedes-Benz actually does this with considerable effort. Thank you from us, and congratulations on your 100th anniversary—even if the dates aren't quite so straightforward, since the word mark was apparently already registered with the Patent Office on April 25, 1925.
But once everything was approved and signed, the new brand took off. As early as October 29, 1926, it made its debut with world premieres (including the Mercedes-Benz 8/38 PS (W 02), 12/55 PS (W 03)), at the Berlin Motor Show, which ran until November 7, 1926.
And ever since then, one star has followed another. We don't want to go over the entire history here—after all, we've already documented Mercedes-Benz in great detail on Zwischengas, including a dedicated brand page .
And to mark the anniversary, we've added a feature on a very special Mercedes-Benz Nürburg 500 Pullman .
For those who love a good challenge, we've come up with a Mercedes-Benz car trivia quiz. And for fans of the star, we've put together a collection of images featuring this iconic emblem .
In the next newsletter, we'll highlight a few more cars from 100 years of Mercedes-Benz.
