Do women drive as well as men?
09/10/2013
Hardly any car advertiser today would try to market a vehicle with the question "Do women drive as well as men?". However, the Triumph people did so in 1960 with some success and they gave the answer themselves: "Yes ... in the Triumph Herald!".
And of course they also provided a plausible explanation for this unusual insight:
"... because it is a masculine car that delights women. Its feather-light steering and hydraulic clutch make driving a breeze. Anyone can therefore be a good driver in the Triumph Herald, thanks to the comfortable gearshift, fingertip light control and unobstructed view to all sides, with the four mudguards in the driver's field of vision. The special adjustment options for the seat and steering wheel allow the riding position to be tailored to the rider. In addition, the Triumph Herald offers enough space for all kinds of small items; coat hooks, bags, parcel shelf, glove box . . . without forgetting the spacious suitcase. Yes, women are on a par with men at the wheel of the Triumph Herald!"
How high the proportion of women was among Herald buyers is beyond our knowledge. However, we can offer the entire sales brochure in the Zwischengas archive, as well as a report with many enchanting picturesof the lively Englishman.
