Classic pearls of the future - Mercedes Benz 500 SEC
09/21/2013
Over 74,000 coupés of the 126 model series were produced; they were called the Mercedes Benz 380 SEC, 420 SEC, 500 SEC and 560 SEC.
For the luxurious coupé, the wheelbase of perhaps the most innovative S-Class of all time was shortened by 8.5 cm. Bruno Sacco adapted the body line to the needs of the sporty coupé, took what he could from the S-Class and created an elegant rear end as well as a face that was soon to be found retrofitted on other Daimlers because people liked it so much.
The modern and comparatively timeless design makes it difficult for the 126 model series in particular to make the transition into the classic segment, but it has everything it needs to be a collector's vehicle: Elegant lines, interesting formal and technical solutions and an extensive fan base.
A well-preserved SEC Coupé with the magnificent five-liter V8 and velour interior is certainly a pleasant travel companion and a future increase in value is more than likely.
