Classic pearls of the future - Ford Focus RS
06/25/2015
In 2002, a Ford Focus RS was presented for the first time, designed as the top performance model in the front-wheel drive Focus range, which had already been in production since 1998. With 215 hp, the Focus RS produced more power than any other Focus and was equipped with a range of motorsport accessories. The first Focus RS was only built for one year, 4501 units are said to have been produced. And it was only available in one color, namely "Ford Racing Blue". The British loved "their" RS, which followed in the footsteps of the Ford Escort RS 2000 and its predecessors in terms of design.
It wasn't until 2008 that there was another RS, this time from the second Focus generation. It looked significantly more aggressive than its predecessor and this variant, now with 305 hp, was also only produced in limited numbers, with 11,000 units being produced in just under two years. This was followed by another 500 units of a sharpened RS500 variant with 350 hp, then there was another break.
Once again, fans had to wait a few years. It was not until 2015 that the third version of the Focus RS, now also available in a four-door version, was announced. It is rumored to have well over 300 hp and visually the new variant is hardly inferior to its predecessors.
The Ford Focus RS was never cheap, always powerful and at the top of its class. That is why it is a cult car and deserves to be included in the group of classic pearls of the future.
