Worst case scenario
06/04/2015
Anyone who buys a classic car is also taking a risk. After all, cars back then were not as reliable as we expect from modern cars.
But what can happen? Pretty much anything from a minor, albeit sometimes difficult to detect, malfunction to major engine damage, not to mention rust and structural damage.
Fixing these problems can take time, but can also cost a lot of money. The cost of an engine overhaul on a Fiat Dino engine can (or at least could a few years ago) easily exceed the value of the car. The same applies to multi-cylinder engines from well-known luxury brands.
In the worst case scenario, you will spend more money than the value of the car on repairs, because even with proper documentation, buyers are rarely prepared to pay for such work in full.
If it happens to you, you can only bear such an event stoically and perhaps find a cheaper repair solution by skillfully navigating your network of contacts.
