The colorful world of car magazines on Zwischengas
06/01/2015
Over the last 130 years or so, an enormous amount has been published about the automobile, mainly in journals and magazines, but also in books and, for the last 20 years, on the Internet. A lot of knowledge has been gathered in this way, but it is not always tangible.
We, at zwischengas.com, have digitized some of this knowledge and made it available, but even we have only been able to publish a few periodicals, the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. The magazines on zwischengas.com can be searched completely, but what if you are looking for articles/reports in other magazines?
Have you ever been faced with the question of what has been published about a particular vehicle?
Wouldn't it be great if there was a "directory" of all magazines that you could search through? Readers have repeatedly asked us for this, but it doesn't exist anywhere. So we decided to tackle it ourselves.
The aim is to compile an overview of all relevant car magazines from the last 130 years, with the most important items in the table of contents, the topics covered (vehicles, people, events) and the title page.
We call the directory "Zwischengas-Mediathek", but we are still at the beginning.
There are two problems: With several thousand magazines, we certainly have one of the largest paper archives in the German-speaking world, but even we are always missing individual magazines from time to time. And, we can't possibly do all the entry work ourselves, we simply don't have the manpower. We are constantly adding new entries, but we are dependent on the help of our readers.
As a first step, we opened the directory to some pilot users who have already entered many issues. After the experience gained and a few application corrections, we are now ready to add a few more "Pilot Mediathek contributors".
So if you are a proud booklet collector yourself or an enthusiastic classic bookworm, please get in touch with us and help us get a little closer to our big goal.
As soon as we are satisfied with the basic stock of magazines we have collected, we will make the Zwischengas media library available to the general public. In a further step, it will then be possible to offer magazines for sale or to formulate search requests for specific content. And we still have some exciting additional ideas ...
