Classic pearls of the future - Maserati Quattroporte IV
09/13/2013
It is not one of the most sought-after Maserati vehicles, the Quattroporte IV, built from 1994 to 2001, but it actually has everything it takes to become a valuable classic. It was only built 2,400 times, its design was by master craftsman Marcello Gandini (Lamborghini Miura and Countach, Maserati Khamsin, Lancia Stratos, among others), the technology was top-class.
The Quattroporte of the 1990s was available with six and eight cylinders (each with four valves per cylinder), and the performance was at least up to class standard. Shifting was manual (six gears) or automatic. The interior looked classy with lots of leather and elm wood. The stylish clock displayed the time in analog form.
Despite all this, the compact four-door is not welcome everywhere, the processing deficiencies were too great, which were only gradually resolved after the takeover of Maserati by Fiat/Ferrari from 1998. I can remember seeing a brand new Quattroporte IV at the Swiss importer in the 1990s, which had just been extensively refurbished/reworked before it could be delivered to a customer.
Compared to the Biturbo models and the Ghibli of the time, from which the Quattroporte IV took the floor assembly, the four-door model today appears airy and well-proportioned, and the details seem harmonious. But this is a matter of taste.
These cars are still affordable, prices are at used car level, but this could well change in the near future ....
