The gas turbine Lotus and Jim Clark
09/14/2013
The Lotus 56 is definitely not a conventional monoposto. It is extremely wedge-shaped for its time and the heat shimmering around the car betrays the gas turbine. Jim Clark should have won the Indianapolis 500 miles with this car, but he died in a Formula 2 race in Hockenheim beforehand.
After all, he had tested the turbine Lotus and that is why this car is now also taking part in the "Jim Clark Tribute" at the Goodwood Revival 2013 to celebrate the 75th birthday of the steering wheel acrobat.
The organizers have "collected" a whole series of former Clark cars (or at least vehicles of the same type), including a DKW that Jim raced, a Lotus 21, a series of Lotus Cortinas, the Lotus 38 in which he won the 500 miles in 1965 and many others.
Of course, the Lotus Elan, which is more closely associated with Clark than almost any other production car, should not be missing.
We will publish our report on the Goodwood Revival shortly after the race weekend.
