In endurance races, but also in other events, drivers are permitted to carry out repairs to their vehicles on the track. However, he must do this himself, i.e. he may not allow a mechanic to work on the car.
The two pictures show Dan Gurney repairing the front axle of his Lotus Cortina in 1964. While he is being instructed by a mechanic who is not allowed to actively intervene, a steward ensures that everything is carried out according to the rules. And depending on the rules, spare parts and aids must of course be carried in the car.
