Where are the old cars at the Mille Miglia?
05/20/2012
Once again, the Mille Miglia 2012 has attracted exceptional and rare old cars. Vehicles that took part in the original Mille Miglia between 1927 and 1957, or that correspond to an earlier participant, are eligible to take part. Great importance is attached to originality and correctness. So far so good.
Despite almost 400 participating vehicles, the accompanying convoy of mechanics and support vehicles, as well as promotional vehicles and other associations, which are pulled along in the maelstrom of the Mille Miglia, which is held on normal, open roads, is sometimes almost overwhelming. It is all too rare to see the Mille participants alone on the track and one wonders whether there is not too much of a good thing going on. After all, the warhorses who rode the 1000 miles 60 or more years ago couldn't count on the mechanic following just a few meters behind them. That would hardly have been possible either, such were the speeds back then.
Despite everything, the Mille Miglia is an experience, for participants and spectators alike. And we will of course be publishing an extensively illustrated article about it shortly.
