When there were still ignition keys and door locks
05/21/2012
For several generations, it was the most normal process in the world. To open a car, you put the key in the door lock and turn it. To start a car, you insert the ignition key into the ignition lock and turn it.
However, current and future generations will no longer experience this normality.
Today, a car either opens by itself when you approach it, or all you have to do is press a bulky remote control. And the engine starts at best after inserting the (electronic) key and pressing or only pressing a start button. You can't even imagine what it will mean if the batteries for these technical miracle keys are no longer available or the complex electronics have to be replaced. What is seen today as a simplification of operation will become a mechatronic challenge tomorrow.
