The 1955 VW Karmann-Ghia (Type 14) is considered a successful design. Luigi Segre and/or Felice Mario Boano, in the service of Ghia, were responsible for its design and the designer probably took more than once the measure of a completely different vehicle built by Ghia, namely the 1952 Chrysler D'Elegance.
The similarity between the two designs cannot be denied, which is one of the reasons why we dedicated an article to the pioneering Chrysler D'Elegance and its predecessor, the C-200.
In contrast to the Chrysler, which remained a prototype, the VW Karmann-Ghia Type 14 was a successful model. An impressive 443,466 vehicles were built between 1955 and 1974.
