What to do when performance drops?
05/06/2012
If the engine suddenly signals a loss of power, then action must be taken. This was no different almost 80 years ago, when the ADAC Motorwelt magazine published a useful guide to finding the cause and subsequent intervention in 1936.
The fact that the chassis was also considered - the handbrake could have been applied or the axle bearings could have run out of grease - probably falls under the heading of humor.
What is interesting, however, are the solutions that were supposed to be tackled with the normal on-board aids at the time, but which would probably be too much for most drivers today. But then again, some things were different 80 years ago.
Many more tips for drivers from back then can be found in the Zwischengas magazine archive.
