Exotics on the circuit
09/16/2013
What makes the Goodwood Revival so exciting, apart from the high-priced gems that are shown in hard-hitting racing action, are the exotic participating vehicles about which little is known and which rarely make it into the classic car press. Want two examples? This year, a 1958 Rochdale GT took part in the Fordwater Trophy. Equipped with a beautifully prepared Coventry Climax engine, the small plastic sports car was introduced at the end of the 1950s on the basis of the Ford Popular chassis. In the end, there was also a specially developed Rochdale chassis for the car, which was produced around 1,350 times.
The early Isuzu passenger cars are also little known in our part of the world. At Goodwood, an Isuzu Bellett from 1965 took part in the touring cars of the St. Mary's Trophy, which had a good sound but could not quite keep up with the top cars in terms of performance. The first cars were exported in 1965 and the Bellett was also exhibited at the Geneva Motor Show in the same year.
Do you think there is a Rochdale GT or an early Isuzu Bellett in German-speaking countries? We would love to portray these cars!
