A slightly different Christmas story
12/24/2012
Once upon a time, a few weeks ago. Santa had just finished his preparations for this year's festival of joy and was about to start preparing his sleigh with the reindeer. Then he noticed that one of the animals was lame and another was leaking water. A third had simply run out of water and Santa realized that he couldn't take to the skies with a reindeer sleigh that wasn't running on all cylinders, so to speak. A replacement had to be found.
And since Santa was an avid reader of Zwischengas - during the long waiting times between his missions he had enough time to browse through the largest automotive online archive in the German language - he sat down at his computer - even Santas move with the times - and had all the vehicle articles shown to him in chronological order for inspiration.
He was only interested in red cars, as this was his preferred color. And as he was a little unimaginative, all vehicles not painted red were ruled out.
He soon came across the DIno 308 GT 4, which he liked, but which he didn't really trust to make rapid progress in the snow.
Then he came across the Panhard 24 CT, which met his specific requirements quite well, but he didn't quite like the sound of the engine.
With the Auto Union 1000 Sp he thought he had already reached his goal, but unfortunately there was no suitable mixture to buy in his area.
After some consideration, he ruled out the Ghia 1500 GT because he doubted that a luggage rack could be mounted on the rounded roof.
The Lamborghini Diablo really got him thinking. With so much power, he might have finished his work much faster. But when he saw the size of the boot, Santa had to say no. He wouldn't even have been able to fit his medium-sized presents in there. What a pity.
Although the Mini 1000was significantly less sporty than the Diablo, it had proven its talents in the snow of the Monte Carlo Rally. However, Santa Claus, who was just a little bit obese, decided that the Mini was too small for him.
He liked the BMW Z1 exceptionally well, but had to realize that his dress code got in the way when getting in through the retractable doors.
A number of other vehicles were ruled out, either because they were not compatible with his large shoes or because Santa's maintenance service failed to provide support.
But in the end, he found the ideal car. An MG A Coupé prepared for rally use immediately appealed to him. Not only did the sporty English car make good progress in the snow thanks to its limited slip differential and supercharger, but with its closed roof and winter-proof heating, it also promised a little more warmth inside. In addition, the fitted luggage rack allowed almost unlimited loading capacity - the laws of gravity have never really bothered Santa Claus - and the old man was particularly fond of the holder on the right-hand side of the interior, in which he could carry a bottle of distilled water for emergencies.
And so it came about that this year Santa Claus is traveling in the MG A instead of the sleigh. And if the "Ho ho ho" is no longer so audible because of the howling compressor, then we car fans will forgive him for that ...
