Classic pearls of the future - Ferrari F355 Spider with manual gearbox in yellow
12/07/2012
Our readers keep asking what the future classics will be. For this reason, we are starting a blog series that briefly portrays potential future classics in loose succession.
We start with the Ferrari 355 Spider, but not with just any model, but with the manual version in yellow. Although yellow was quite popular in the nineties - the F355 was built from 1994 to 1999 - the majority of vehicles were delivered in red or metallic colors. Compared to its predecessor, the 348, the F355 was a big step forward and many commentators, including TopGear's Jeremy Clarkson, consider it to be one of the best Ferraris ever from a driver's perspective.
With 2,663 examples built, the Spider is not the rarest F355, in fact fewer cars were equipped with the semi-automatic F1 gearbox, but the open splitter gearbox has iconic status and is also technically less vulnerable. The Spider is the second most common model after the Coupé, the Targa version is rarer. But only the Spider offers this grandiose openness, which allows the sound of the V8 engine to be experienced so unadulterated. And it looks simply breathtaking in yellow, especially with the classic black interior.
Today, well-preserved vehicles with a manual gearbox are priced between 35,000 and 60,000 euros; in 10 years' time, we will be dreaming of these prices (or not).
